Adaptive mesh generation in FEM from an optical interferometric phase map

چکیده

An approach hybrid optical-computational criterion to generate an adaptive refinement mesh to be used in mechanical structure analysis with Finite Element Method (FEM) is proposed. The numerical error to determine the refinement zones in adaptive meshing is substituted for an experimental weight function. Experimental optical phase map is used to define this weight function. This criterion permits adaptive two-dimensional mesh refinement in experimental critical zones as interruptions due to real edges or crack tips. The general criterion and algorithm are given. Two-dimensional refinement examples using experimental phase maps of displacement and fracture measuring using triangular elements in a rectangular domain are shown.

A mesh generation procedure to simulate bimaterials

It is difficult to develop an algorithm which is able to generate the appropriate mesh around the interfaces in bimaterials. In this study, a corresponding algorithm is proposed for this class of unified structures made from different materials with arbitrary shapes. The non-uniform mesh is generated adaptively based on advancing front technique available in Abaqus software. Implementing severa...

An OOP Approach for Mesh Generation of Multi-Region Models with NURBS

This paper presents an object-oriented approach for creating multi-region non-manifold models with NURBS. The main motivation is that the geometry and shape of realistic engineering objects are intrinsically complex, usually composed by several materials and regions. Therefore, automatic and/or adaptive meshing algorithms have become revealed themselves quite useful to increase the reliability ...

Fast Finite Element Method Using Multi-Step Mesh Process

This paper introduces a new method for accelerating current sluggish FEM and improving memory demand in FEM problems with high node resolution or bulky structures. Like most of the numerical methods, FEM results to a matrix equation which normally has huge dimension. Breaking the main matrix equation into several smaller size matrices, the solving procedure can be accelerated. For implementing ...

Three-dimensional Mesh-generator for Finite Element Method Applications

The finite element method (FEM) [1] is one of the most effective numeric methods for solving linear and non-linear multi-dimensional scientific and technical problems. It allows modeling of systems with a complex geometry and an irregular physical structure. One of the most time-consuming steps when solving three-dimensional problems using the FEM method is building adaptive mesh. The mesh shou...

Sub-THz Carrier Frequency Generation Stabilized by Mach-Zehnder Interferometric Phase Detection Scheme

We propose a Mach-Zehnder interferometric phase detection for low phase noise subterahertz (THz) carrier frequency generation. In this scheme, phase fluctuation between two optical signals can be detected as the interference between their optical sidebands. Experimental result shows that, by controlling the interference to be constant, the phase noise is successfully reduced, which indicates ef...
